An alcohol-free social tonic for the people who love the ritual of a drink and still want to feel good on Sunday morning.

KILA started where most good drinks start — around a table, with people we love. The conversations were the part we wanted to keep. The alcohol, the sugar, the slow morning after — those were the parts we wanted to leave behind.

The pour, reimagined.

We looked for something to replace the wine glass at dinner, the cocktail at the bar, the beer on the porch. Soda was too sweet. Mocktails were a costume. Most non-alcoholic spirits were a compromise. So we built our own — a noble kava root tonic, blended with four plant adaptogens, that does what alcohol pretends to do without doing what it actually does.

About the root.

Kava is the root of a South Pacific pepper plant. Across Fiji, Vanuatu, and Tonga, it’s been the social drink of choice for more than a thousand years — poured at weddings, after work, at village gatherings. We use the noble cultivar (the traditional one, never tudei), standardized to deliver 250 mg of kavalactones in every stick — then blend it with ashwagandha, saffron, lemon balm, and L-theanine to soften the edges and lift the mood.

Why I built this.

I spent a lot of years saying yes to the glass of wine because that’s what the table was doing. The ritual was the part I actually loved — the slow pour, the conversation that opens up around the third sip, the evening that feels like an evening. The hangover and the hazy Sunday were the parts I kept trying to negotiate around.
