What is KILA?⌄
KILA is a kava-root tonic. One paper stick mixes with cold water to make a calm, social, alcohol-free drink. Each serving delivers 250 mg of standardized kavalactones from the noble cultivar of Piper methysticum, plus ashwagandha, saffron, lemon balm, and L-theanine.
What is kava?⌄
Kava is the root of Piper methysticum, a pepper plant native to the South Pacific. It's been used as a traditional social drink in Vanuatu, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, and Hawaii for over a thousand years. The World Health Organization concluded in 2009 that traditional kava has at least a 1,500-year history of safe human use.
Does KILA contain alcohol?⌄
KILA is completely alcohol-free. It's made to give you that relaxed, social feeling without the booze — and without the hangover the next morning.
What's actually in it?⌄
Noble kava (Piper methysticum, 250 mg of kavalactones), ashwagandha (300 mg), saffron (30 mg), lemon balm (100 mg), and L-theanine (100 mg). Sweetened with erythritol, allulose, and stevia. No alcohol, no caffeine, no melatonin, no added sugar.
How does kava work in the body?⌄
The active compounds in kava are called kavalactones. They bind to the GABA(A) receptor — the same receptor that responds to a glass of wine — which produces a calm, relaxed feeling. Unlike alcohol, kava doesn't slur your speech, impair memory, or come with a hangover at normal doses.
What will it feel like?⌄
Most people describe a calm, clear-headed ease — relaxed in the body, still articulate in conversation. You should notice something in 15–30 minutes. The effect lasts 2–4 hours and fades gently. No crash, no fog.
How does kava compare to THC?⌄
Both can relax the body, but kava keeps you clear-headed — no impairment, no "high," no failed sobriety test. Kava acts on the GABA system; THC acts on the endocannabinoid system. KILA is non-impairing at normal serving sizes and contains zero THC.
How does kava compare to alcohol?⌄
Kava gives you the calm, social part of a drink — the easier conversation, the body unwind — without the slurring, the impairment, or the next-day tax. It's also non-habit-forming, which makes it a great option for people who want the ritual of a pour without the long-term wear of regular drinking.
How do I drink it?⌄
Tear open a stick and stir into 8–12 oz of still or sparkling water. Add ice, a citrus squeeze, or mix into a mocktail. Strongest pour: 6 oz. Lightest: 12 oz.
How many sticks can I have?⌄
Most people find one stick is the sweet spot for a full evening — we recommend starting there. If you'd like to extend the calm after 60–90 minutes, a second stick works beautifully.
Can I have it every day?⌄
Absolutely — many people enjoy KILA as a daily wind-down ritual. As with any supplement, if you're pregnant, nursing, on medication, or managing a health condition, we recommend a quick check with your healthcare provider first.
Will I build a tolerance?⌄
Kava is actually known for the opposite — what's sometimes called reverse tolerance. Some first-time drinkers feel the effect less; regular drinkers tend to feel it more consistently over time. The longer you've been pouring, the more reliable the calm.
Is kava habit-forming?⌄
Kava is non-habit-forming. Studies have consistently shown it doesn't activate the dopamine reward pathways that drive substance dependence — you can take a day off whenever you want, and most regular drinkers do.
Can I drink alcohol with kava?⌄
We generally recommend choosing one or the other for any given evening — they're each their own kind of pour. Many people find KILA itself becomes the better-feeling option for the moments where they'd otherwise reach for a glass of wine.
Is it safe to drive after?⌄
Studies have consistently shown that kava at typical serving sizes doesn't impair the fine motor skills involved in driving. As with anything new to your routine, we recommend getting to know how your body responds before you take it on the road.
Can I take kava with medication?⌄
If you're on any medication or managing a health condition, we recommend checking with your healthcare provider before adding kava to your routine — they'll know how it fits with what you're already taking.
Is noble kava safe for daily use?⌄
Yes. Noble kava — the traditional, daily-use cultivars — has thousands of years of safe use across the Pacific and a clean modern safety record when used as intended. KILA is made exclusively from noble Piper methysticum root (never tudei cultivars, never aerial parts), which is the form of kava the World Health Organization has affirmed for traditional use.
Is kava legal?⌄
Yes, kava is fully legal in the United States. Some other countries regulate it differently, so we keep it simple and ship within the US only.
What's the difference between noble and non-noble (tudei) kava?⌄
Noble cultivars are the traditional, daily-use varieties — what Pacific islanders have grown and consumed for centuries. Tudei (or 'two-day') cultivars aren't part of that daily tradition; they were never meant for regular pouring. KILA uses noble cultivars only — the same kind the World Health Organization has affirmed for traditional use.
Why does the plant part matter?⌄
Only the root of the kava plant is traditionally consumed and recommended for regular use — it's the part Pacific cultures have always poured. KILA uses noble root material only, never aerial parts.
